Reeder haul

A rogue internet trader who sold fake versions of gadgets from top brands has been stopped by Portsmouth City Council investigators.
After complaints from customers about dodgy products, they raided his premises and found thousands of counterfeit Apple, Sony, Nintendo, Sennheiser and Monster items.
Michael Reeder, 35, of Carbis Close, Port Solent, Portsmouth, was convicted last week (19 March) after a complex 18-month operation by the council’s trading standards team.
Reeder denied 13 offences under the Trade Marks Act but was found guilty of all of them, and is to be sentenced at Portsmouth …

DISHONEST Michael Smith used a blue badge which belonged to his late stepdad to dodge parking charges.
And when he was caught out, Smith claimed the badge’s dead owner was alive and had just popped to the shops.
Smith used the blue badge up to five times a week for more than 18 months to avoid paying to park in Portsmouth following Desmond Quinn’s death.

Money from illegal cigarettes is confiscated by Portsmouth City Council

THOUSANDS of pounds made from selling illegal cigarettes have been confiscated by Portsmouth City Council.
Shopkeeper Omaid Ramazan Abdul Rahman, who traded at Fratton Food Store, in Fratton Road, was ordered to pay back £3,297.
Trading standards officers seized more than 24,000 cigarettes that were incorrectly labelled, with some specifically manufactured to avoid tax.
In July he received a two-month prison sentence suspended for a year and was ordered to do 180 hours of unpaid work.

Safe Shopping Area to Launch
It has been found that people with learning disabilities are often faced with challenges when shopping. At Portsmouth City Council trading standards service we believe consumer rights should be rights for everyone to enjoy and with this in mind we are launching a Safe Shopping Area in the City Centre in October of this year.

Licence ban for shop that sold alcohol to kids

A SHOP caught repeatedly selling alcohol to children in undercover stings has had its licence revoked.
Licence holder Rakesh Basra sold a bottle of 14.5 per cent Sidekick and 10 Mayfair cigarettes to a person under 18 at Stop N Go in a trading standards operation.
At the time the shop’s licence had already been suspended for three months over poor record-keeping and alcohol being sold to a child previously.

Illicit tobacco seized in Portsmouth by trading standards officers

A Portsmouth shopkeeper has been sentenced in relation to seven offences under the Consumer Protection Act relating to the supply of illegal tobacco with a further eight offences taken into consideration. 
Omaid Ramazan Abdul Rahman, who traded at Fratton Food Store, 43b Fratton Road, Portsmouth admitted the offence at Portsmouth Crown Court.
He was sentenced to two months imprisonment suspended for one year and ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work.
